Pilates @ Sportswise

Condition your body with Matwork Pilates by joining Alison Ogles in her one to one sessions at Sportswise.

Alison, who has recently gained her qualifications as a Pilates Instructor is also one of our in-house Chartered Physiotherapists.

She is able to use Pilates alongside her Physiotherapy experience in various stages of physical rehabilitation, to encourage beginners and help athletes to enhance their performance and avoid the risk of injury.

Pilates is a conditioning exercise programme that targets the deep postural muscles of the abdomen and spine to improve overall central core stability and posture. Pilates focuses on exercises to improve spinal mobility, flexibility, body awareness and postural awareness.

There is substantial medical evidence on the importance of deep postural muscles of the abdomen and spine, particularly Transversus Abdominus and Multifidus to reduce the recurrence of low back pain and lumbar instability.

Pilates suits all ages and fitness levels and is particularly beneficial for those with back pain, poor posture, sports injuries, arthritis, and stress-related illness.

What is involved in the Pilates sessions?

  • The sessions at Sportswise are up to 45 minutes long and one-to-one.  Each person will be assessed on the initial visit and a discussion will take place to enable a specific exercise plan to be made to each individual, dependent on their needs.  Like any exercise programme it needs to be practised regularly to see results and a suggestion of between 4-6 sessions is recommended to help accomplish this and check technique, whilst developing a repertoire of exercises suitable for your individual needs.
  • Please wear suitable loose clothing to exercise in and for the initial assessment you may be asked to undress as appropriate to see any areas of pain or movement problems.
