Three peaks… but thirty challenges

The photo here is the view on the way down from the Peak of Ben Nevis.  It is around 8:30pm and the sun is setting on the first day of a Three Peaks challenge – the aim of which is to walk up and down Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales in the quickest time possible. It’s a feat most of us would find daunting, if not impossible, yet this particular Three Peaks represents only one out of thirty challenges that Team 30/30 are completing to raise money for the charity Pancreatic Cancer UK and to increase awareness of the disease.

Catherine Payne, a PHD student supervised by Professor Webborn, told us, “Pancreatic cancer is often diagnosed late, leading to low survival rates. My husband Nick lost his mother to pancreatic cancer in 2013 and he has committed to thirty different challenges in her memory during this, his thirtieth birthday year.”

This photo, of the top of Mount Snowdon, gives you some idea of the atrocious weather they faced during their Three Peaks.

The thirty challenges include cycling to Paris, running a 10K race every week for a month and 100 press ups. To find out how to contribute to this amazing effort you can go to their Facebook page, their fantastic WordPress blog or their donation page at JustGiving.

If you fancy joining TEAM 30/30 for one of the remaining challenges, we’re sure they would love to hear from you.
