Therapeutic Ultrasound
therapeutic_ultrasound.png

Therapeutic ultrasound is delivered by moving a metal probe over your skin. The ultrasound is created by the vibration of crystals in the head of the probe and we use a water based gel on the skin to help transmit these sound waves to your skin and tissue.

Ultrasound brings about changes at cellular level and has been shown to have the following benefits:

  • It speeds up the healing process

  • Reduces swelling

  • Accelerates bone healing

  • It can increase blood flow depending on the dosage used

What does it feel like?
You will mostly just feel the cold probe move on your skin, but you may also feel a gentle vibration or the area heat up. It all depends on the dosage the therapist is using and what the aim of their treatment is. Ultrasound should never cause pain, so inform your therapist if this happens.
